Paperwork

Over the weekend I got a start on the operational paper work.

I designed a Waybill and Switch list.

The waybill is my own design, derived from 3 or 4 different waybill examples I found on the internet or had given to me by other modellers.

It has most of the typical information found on a prototypical waybill.  I created it using Apple's 'Numbers' program. I saved a master copy and will make inbound and outbound waybill's for each car on the roster.

I also managed to complete an inbound and outbound waybill for a CN 8 hatch Reefer.  I checked the car wheels for the proper gauge, adjusted the truck screws and replaced a missing air hose.  It is now ready for service.  One down and about 30 or so to go.  If I stay on this project I should have it finished in less than a week.  Well that's the goal anyway.

Inspiration for the Switch List comes from an Algoma Central example.  The clip board is about the size of a half sheet of paper.  I printed the waybills on thick paper and laminated them.

  1. Nicely done and they'll add a prototype feel to your operating sessions.

  2. Looks good. I will offer this advice though...from my own experience, just something to consider. For each waybill, keep it in your Numbers spreadsheet, as a new tab. I have found that I have gone back and made some modifications to mine to clarify things and then printed a new one. So I have multiple spreadsheets by car type, and each one has up to 25 tabs to cover all of my waybills created for that car type. (mine are not specific to a car# like yours). And if you do think you might make changes, hold off on laminating them until you are sure they are exactly what you want. I have train instruction cards I want to laminate, but I have been making continuous updates to them after the last op session. So I'll hold off on laminating them for now.

    1. Mike,

I was thinking along the same lines regarding the tabs. Now I just have to figure it out in numbers, I normally use excel.

  3. Cool paperwork. Are you ready to roll trains at an operating session yet?

    1. Hunter,

Yes I 'm ready to run trains, though the paperwork is not complete. We should set something up in the near future. I'll send a PM to you.

  4. Hey Hunter:
I've actually had a session at Ryan's place (although before this paperwork was created) - so I'm guessing the answer is yes. We need to arrange a session there - and another one at Bob's place.
    Cheers!
