Introduction

The Algonquin Railway (AGN) is an HO scale layout representing a free-lanced railroad set in Northern Ontario, on the east side of Algonquin Park, in April 1977.   My goal is to share the construction of the layout and modelling of the locomotives and rolling stock.  I also hope to meet some like minded modellers.  Here are some pictures to start things off.

Enjoy!  More to come..

  2. Wow, nice looking layout and the best of both worlds. Northern Ontario and Railroading in the 70's. Great scenery too! Keep the photos coming...

  3. This scene looks like it used Mike Confalone's quarry scene as a prototype? The trees especially look great. I've made a few of those myself.

    1. Steve,

When I started the layout 4 years ago I choose my birthday April 9 1977 as the day I would model. Little did I know of the challenge of Early spring scenery! Mike Confalones DVD's have been a huge help. I started the quarry shortly after the bench work and track was done, and then Mikes quarry DVD came out. This is my first layout so I decided to follow Mikes techniques. I tried to make the granite look my like what it is in northern Ontario though. Mike saw a picture of the quarry on my MRH blog and gave me a few pointers and prototype photos to make the quarry face looked blasted.

  5. Can we have a plan sometime, or failing that, a photo tour of the layout?

Lovely work, and an inspiring blog,
